How to monitor the performance and troubleshoot hotel’s WiFi network issues automatically.

We live in a hyperconnected world. That is why more and more customers value that an accommodation offers the technology and services that meet their needs and expectations.

A good WiFi connection is one of the keys for guest satisfaction. While the smooth running of the network has always been important, today it is even more so: customers expect the internet in a hotel to go as fast and be as reliable as in their own homes and to have a frictionless experience on any device from which they connect, be it a smartphone, tablet, laptop or wearables.

The guest demands to be able to enjoy content from on-demand platforms, play video games just like at home, or hold high-quality video calls and events using the hotel’s own network. So WiFi is a critical service for both leisure and telework and its malfunction can lead to multiple complaints, make us go down in reputation rankings and  deteriorate the brand image.

Having a fast and reliable network is a differentiating element for a property, a necessity to be more competitive in an area where potential customers demand more and more quality services related to technology that will intensify with the arrival of 5G.

The causes of network problems

Most hotel’s WiFi networks systems are neither optimised nor improved and they do not meet specific requirements. Many current WiFi infrastructures that were designed about 7-10 years ago, are today of low quality, with slow connectivity and coverage failures. Taking into account the pace at which network innovation is advancing, it is necessary to renew and update services every five years.

On the other hand, when there is a network problem the assistance provided depends on the availability of the internet supplier, so often the hotel’s maintenance department simply restart the system if it does not work, while waiting for a solution. So the problems are not solved and the malfunction persists.

In addition, traditional maintenance solutions, where you pay a fixed monthly fee or hourly packages for interventions, are insufficient because they give limited support that is not preventive.

In short, the maintenance service is usually reactive (only acts when a problem happens) and manual, which in the long run generates high costs, constant dependence on third parties and an inefficient WiFi service that leaves the guest unhappy.

The most effective solution to improve a hotel’s WiFi

An important aspect to always offer a good connection is the ongoing evaluation of the infrastructure and its operation. Performing an audit is essential to know the status of the network and identify if any changes in the system are necessary. To do this, we must check the system fully, both the physical condition and the set-up of all the network’s components (routers, switches, access points, firewalls, servers…).

In fact, one of the main reasons why a hosting does not have a good connection is because it has not been installed properly. To offer good WiFi coverage in all hotel areas, whether in rooms, public areas, dining room, restaurants, bar, swimming pool and anywhere, it is necessary to analyse the location of the wiring and antennas.

However, despite an optimal set up and status of the components, there may still be some one-off network failures. As previously discussed, normally when these incidents happen, we act too late to repair the inconveniences caused to customers and change their perception of the service.

For these cases, we have developed a system called WiFiBot that automatically solves these internet connection issues without the need for staff or a technician to intervene.

How WiFiBot works

WiFiBot is a tool that connects to all the different devices of the hotel’s WiFi network in such a way that it is able to monitor 24/7 the health of the entire system and any element connected to the network regardless of the manufacturer.

At the same time, it proactively monitors the network for performance issues and continuously evaluates the components to maintain and optimise their availability to avoid downtime or network failures.

When WiFiBot detects a problem, it is able to fix it by itself remotely. For those who do not have a remote solution, it is able to indicate the source of the problem.

Its main benefits are summarised as follows:

  • It ensures that the user always connects to the WiFi access point with the best signal.
  • It significantly reduces the number of incidents that occur by anticipating possible network operation or saturation errors in advance.
  • It makes work easier for staff, who can focus on providing optimal customer service, without worrying about such incidents.

Besides, this modern solution analyses all the information that comes from the use of WiFi and can be consulted from a dashboard that can be accessed by both hotel staff and their technicians. By analysing all the information, we can obtain statistics from both guests and the network itself and have an overall vision of its use and possible problems derived from the infrastructure itself: design of the system, failures in the electrical network, overloads …

As a result of our experience in the sector through the integration of our services with the WiFi network in more than 1000 hotels, we can offer this quality service for the maintenance and optimal operation of the accommodations’ internet networks.

We have put together this manual where we highlight everything that WiFiBot can offer and the real advantages we can offer to hotel properties: WiFiBot Manual
